Lions end Orbit College FC unbeaten run while Maritzburg returns to winning ways
Hungry Lions beat Orbit College FC 1-0 at Windhoek Draught Park to end their unbeaten run in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, while Maritzburg United hammered Venda FC 5-1 in Durban.
Orbit College were promoted from the ABC Motsepe League to the NFD at the start of the 2023/24 season.
The Mswenko Boys as they are famously known, had a flying start to life in the Championship after winning four of their opening league matches.
Orbit College claimed victories against Platinum City Rovers, Milford FC, Black Leopards and Upington City FC.
They failed to collect maximum points in their last two games after playing to a goalless draw against University of Pretoria last Friday before losing 1-0 on Tuesday against Hungry Lions.
MARITZBURG AND AMATUKS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
Elsewhere, AmaTuks returned to winning ways after defeating Pretoria Callies 1-0 at Soshanguve’s Giant Stadium on Wednesday to walk away with Tshwane derby bragging rights.
Prior to beating Callies, the Tlisane Motaung-coached team played two back-to-back goalless draws againts NB La Masia and Orbit College.
Meanwhile, Baroka FC began life under Dan Malesela with a 1-1 draw against Upington City at Global Stadium on Wednesday.
Malesela took over the head coach role at Baroka on Monday (02 October 2023) from Stanford Nkoane, who left the club after a poor start to the 2023/24 campaign.
Bakgakga are yet to taste victory in the new season after drawing four games and losing two in their six games of the campaign.
