The type of football Rulani wants to witness in MTN8 final against Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed the type of football he wants to witness in the much-anticipated MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at the weekend.

The two PSL giants will lock horns for the second time this season on Saturday at the sold-out iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban at 6pm.

Two weeks back, Masandawana claimed the three points in the DStv Premiership winning with a narrow 1-0 victory at Orlando Stadium.

RULANI MOKWENA WANTS THE MTN8 FINAL TO BE A CLEAN GAME

According to the mentor, he wants the final showdown to be a clean game where the match officials are not harassed. The Soweto-born mentor also desires to see some entertaining football with less dangerous tackles.

In the previous meetings between the two teams there always have been serious injury setbacks.

“Hopefully, it’s a very good game of football you know without the harassment of referees, without physicality with tackles that are over the top,” said Mokwena.

“Almost every game we lose a player against Pirates with a very severe injury. Haashim Domingo in the Carling Black Label, [Abubeker] Nassir is still not here because of the situation with Siyabonga Mpontshane.

“In the last game, [Nkosinathi] Sibisi took Marcelo [Allende] out on the halfway line with his studs up with a two-footed tackle and Marcelo hasn’t really recovered from that.

“So I’m hoping for a game that doesn’t have too much of those and we have more football you know.”

RULANI MOKWENA ANTICIPATING A DIFFICULT MATCH AGAINST THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Mokwena further anticipates a difficult match against the MTN8 defending champions. To add, Pirates will be playing their third cup final since Jose Riveiro joined the Soweto giants.

“Of course, it’s a difficult opponent with some very good players on the pitch. It’s an opponent that’s playing its third cup final as a group. We know, we understand the magnitude of the assignment and we have to go for it as well,” added the Mamelodi Sundowns.
