CAF inter-club group stage draw: South African clubs learn their fate
Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United have learned their fate in the 2023/24 CAF inter-club group stage draw.
The 2023/24 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage draw took place on Friday, 6 October in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The African football governing body started with the CAF Confederation Cup draw which was followed by the the CAF Champions League draw an hour later.
This comes after the conclusion of the fascinating preliminary round for both competitions that began in August 2023.
The winners of both competitions, Al Ahly SC [CAF Champions League winners] and USM Alger [Confederation Cup champions] are still on course to defend their tile as they will feature in the group stage of the inter-club competition.
SOUTH AFRICAN REPRESENTATIVES LEARN THEIR FATE IN CAF INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS
Mamelodi Sundowns are pitted in Group A with FC Nouadhibou [Mauritania], TB Mazembe [RDC] and Pyramids [Egypt].
Last season, Sundowns were out from the Champions League in the semis at the hands of Wydad Casablanca.
Bafana Ba Style and Wydad played out to a 2-2 draw in the second leg clash, with the North African side coming back twice to tie the score and deny the Tshwane giants a place in the final, as Wydad progressed on away goal rule.
On the other hand, Matsatsantsa are in Group A of the Confederation Cup alongside USMA [Algeria], Future FC [Egypt] and Al Hilal [Libya].
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune are drawn in Group D alongside RS Berkane [Morocco], Diables Noirs [ Congo Brazzaville] and Stade Malien [Mali].
The CAF inter-club group stage matches will start between 24 and 25 November 2023.
