Baniyas FC hand Mosimane’s Al Wahda second successive league defeat
Baniyas FC handed Pitso Mosimane’s side Al Wahda a second successive defeat in the UAE Pro League on Friday night at the Baniyas Stadium.
10-man Al Wahda lost 2-1 as the home side came from behind to claim all the maximum points. They netted two late goals in the second half.
Argentine midfielder Facundo Krupsky had initially opened the scoring for Mosimane’s team in the 25th minute.
As the match progressed, the visitors suffered a huge blow towards the break. UAE right back Abdurahman Saleh took an early shower after he was given a straight red card.
The former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach’s team managed to hold on to the lead for 59 minutes before Baniyas leveled matters. Albanian forward Taulant Seferi scored from the penalty spot with six minutes left till full time.
As the match was headed for a 1-1 stalemate, former US Boulogne forward Youssoufou Niakate broke Al Wahda’s hearts in the stoppage time. He scored the winner in the 94th minute as they completed their comeback.
Baniyas’ victory saw them end a four-match winless run following two draws and two defeats in all competitions.
WHERE DOES THE LOSS LEAVE AL WAHDA ON THE LOG
The loss meant Mosimane’s side has only registered two victories in their five outings so far this season, other matches ended in defeats. As a result, they dropped to ninth on the log standings with six points.
For Mosimane and co, it’s back to the drawing board once again as they will be aiming to avoid a third loss in a row.
Their next assignment is a home encounter against seventh-placed Al-Ittihad Kalba on 27 October. Al Ittihad won 2-1 earlier on Friday.
