How Marcelo Allende provokes Rulani Mokwena’s tactical acumen
Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Rulani Mokwena has opened up on how the club’s Chilean midfielder, Marcelo Allende provokes his tactical acumen.
Marcelo Allende has been a vital cog in Rulani Mokwena’s arsenal since joining the club last year in June. The Chilean is one of the few Mamelodi Sundowns players that have played every PSL game this season.
Though, with no goal to his name in all competitions in this season, the midfielder, Marcelo Allende has been simply exceptional.
According to Transfermarkt, Allende has one assist under his belt for Mamelodi Sundowns in seven DStv Premiership matches.
And coach Rulani Mokwena revealed the key attributes that make the 24-year-old a complete package.
WHAT MOKWENA SAID ABOUT MARCELO ALLENDE
In fact, the outspoken gaffer is of the view that Allende is poised to be a top coach if he pursues that path.
“There are things that players have that a coach can never take credit for. Marcelo Allende has so many of those attributes,” said Mokwena. “And above everything, there are two things about him, mainly that he has an incredible football brain.
“I think he will be a top coach. The level of discussions that I have with Marcelo. He provokes my brain so much.”
WHAT MAKES ALLENDE THRIVE AT SUNDOWNS
Mokwena added that the healthy competition at Mamelodi Sundowns has oiled Marcelo Allende.
“And of course, he is surrounded by very good players, so that his level rises. Every single day, you are with Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena, Lucas Ribeiro, and Bongani Zungu.
“Even in small-sided games, it’s Sipho Mbule versus Allende. Of course, they are going to get better because of the level that they have. They compete healthy. The second and most important thing about him is that he is an incredible and humble human being,” Mokwena added
