‘I made four attempts, it’s not my fault’: Hugo Broos

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has raised an issue between himself and PSL clubs as his troops assembled for camp on Monday.

South Africa is gearing up for the two international friendlies against Lesotho and Côte d’Ivoire. Broos has made one change from his 23-man squad, dropping Percy Tau who’s out due to “family reasons”.

He has been replaced by Kaizer Chiefs’ Mduduzi Mdantsane as first reported by FARPost. Meanwhile, when he announced the final squad last week, the Belgian coach had to leave out some players because of the reported injuries.

That includes Bathusi Aubaas, Thapelo Maseko, Thapelo Morena, and Innocent Maela. However, Maseko played on Saturday when Mamelodi Sundowns lost in the MTN8 to Orlando Pirates.

HUGO BROOS NOT HAPPY ABOUT LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH PSL CLUBS

Broos was surprised by the 20-year-old’s participation over the weekend. He stated it was the same case with Mudau last month who was said to have been injured but played at his club two days before the national team camp started.

The 2017 AFCON winning coach says he’s been trying to build “better communication” between himself and PSL clubs. Broos revealed that he made four attempts to meet the coaches but PSL kept on postponing.

“You know I have been trying for [the past] two years to meet the coaches and every time PSL postponed it,” said Broos.

“So, I did four attempts and four times it was postponed by PSL. I know the communication can be better but it’s not my fault, it’s not my responsibility because I did four attempts to have that communication.

“And then you know that those things can happen.

“There was this problem [reported injury] with [Khuliso] Mudau last month but suddenly he plays on Saturday, two days before the camp starts. You can’t change anymore.

“We have the same thing now with [Thapelo] Maseko. So, that means now that the communication has to be better. And I know what I’m going to do in the future not to have those kinds of surprises anymore.”

Meanwhile, Broos added he was surprised that Tau played for Al Ahly this past weekend despite his inability to join the camp.

‘THEN THERE IS A CASE OF PERCY TAU…’

“Then there is a case of Percy Tau. So, I had contact with Percy last week for family reasons, he won’t be here with us,” Broos added.

“I understood it, on the other side, I’m really not amused that he played yesterday with Al Ahly. So, I think clubs have to understand that in very important periods [for them] when they want to have the players that it’s the same case for me and the national team.

“We are in a very important period for the moment. We are in preparations for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. And we are in preparation for AFCON in January.”
