Why Tembo is ‘no longer’ worried about Richards Bay’s continuous poor run

Richards Bay FC head coach Kaitano Tembo has pointed out why he’s “no longer worried” about the club’s continuous poor run.

Richards Bay have lost five, drawn three and won only one of nine DStv Premiership matches they have played this season. They sit 15th on the log standings having accumulated just six points.

The Natal Rich Boyz’ woes began last season in the second round. However, they had amassed enough points in the first round to keep their PSL top-flight status.

Tembo’s arrival hasn’t made much difference with the bad run persisting as they have only picked up one win. However, the former SuperSport United mentor feels his side has been making progress.

Tembo says his charges have performed better than some of their recent opponents. Thus, he believes it’s just a matter of time before they turn the corner.

KAITANO TEMBO SAYS HE’S HOPEFUL THEY’RE CLOSE TO COMING AROUND

“I think all I need is the response that I get from the players,” he said after the match against Polokwane City.

“If I was not getting that response in the performance, I would be worried. But if I get such a response with players giving me everything that they have got.

“Attitude towards training has been good and [attitude] towards matches has been brilliant. That’s all I can ask for. For me, that’s a starting point.

“In terms of us, if we were not also creating chances, I was gonna be worried as well. But we are creating a lot of opportunities. So, we just need to continue working hard and continue believing. That’s very important.

“And hopefully, we will come around.”

According to the Zimbabwean coach, netting goals is the element that’s missing in Richards Bay’s game.

‘IT SHOWS THEY HAVE CHARACTER’

“I think we just not scoring goals, we are not taking our chances. Like I mentioned I would be worried if were not playing the way we are playing,” added Tembo.

“We go to a place like Mbombela and played the way we played from a goal down, we come and equalise and still create better chances than the home team. For me, I think the players are very positive.

“To be where we are and still perform they are performing. It shows they have character, they want to get the team out of the position that we are in.

“I believe that we will get it right, it will come alright because I’m quite happy with the attitude of the players.”
