‘They shouldn’t be happy for second place’: Ramovic challenges Chiefs and Pirates
TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has thrown a challenge to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
He says they should stop Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the league and not be happy for the second-place finish.
In the previous seasons, the two most popular clubs in the PSL, Chiefs and Pirates, have been struggling to win the DStv Premiership with Sundowns running the show.
The Tshwane giants have clinched the league title six times in a row unchallenged. The only time Masandawana were made to sweat for the league was in the 2019/20 season when Chiefs bottled it on the last day.
The last time the Sea Robbers lifted the league title was back in the 2011/12 season. On the other hand, Amakhosi were last crowned champions in the 2014/15 campaign.
Already, this season Sundowns have opened a seven-point gap at the summit after eight matches as they have collected 24 points.
RAMOVIC SAYS PIRATES AND CHIEFS SHOULD ALWAYS COMPETE FOR LEAGUE TITLE
Ramovic wants the Soweto giants to end the Sundowns’ dominance as he believes they have all the resources to compete.
“I think we have to be honest and say Orlando [Pirates] is also a very fantastic team, it’s not only Sundowns,” said Ramovic.
“You also have Chiefs in our group, you also have Cape Town City FC and a lot of other clubs that improved a lot.
“But all-in-all Orlando and Chiefs in my view should always compete to win the league, not be happy for the second place. Because why? Top clubs, top coaches and top players.
“So I think that Orlando and Chiefs of course can go [challenge], with the financial power, with the players they have. I think it will be an exciting league until May.
SEAD RAMOVIC HOPES IT WON’T BE ONE-HORSE RACE
Ramovic believes it will be exciting if the top three clubs will go pound-to-pound and fight for the league till the end.
“It would be nice that we have more more excitements up front there, not only Sundowns. Now they’re with many points ahead, but I think Orlando and also Chiefs got everything they can to compete,” Ramovic added.
