Sukazi: ‘African Football League left a lot of questions’

With the African Football League just a few days away, TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi reckons that the tournament raised many eyebrows and left a lot of questions unanswered.

The tournament will commence on 20 October and come to an end on 11 November.

The inaugural African Football League will consist of eight teams which include the Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, Esperance of Tunisia, TP Mazembe from DR Congo, Nigerian side Enyimba, Simba SC and Petro Atletico from Tanzania and Angola respectively.

To add to that, the competition’s quarterfinal fixtures will be played over two legs [home and away].

Now, the other concerning part is that Sundowns, who will be taking part in the tournament may find themselves split in half amid a busy fixture schedule.

Sadly, the PSL is not really willing to accommodate Masandawana as they are also left with many unanswered questions regarding the African Football League tournament.

Bafana Ba Style will face Petro Atletico away from home on Saturday, 21 October 2023.

Mokwena’s men also have commitments in the DStv Premiership, Carling Knockout Cup, and the CAF Champions League.

TIM SUKAZI ON AFRICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

“I’m not sure the Carling Cup is clashing with the African Football League. Not necessarily, there’s no clash. We are in our own domain,” said Sukazi.

“We are South African football and love what we do. Everything we do is for the course. Secondly, I’m sure you might have heard about the African Football League thus far. Especially, the way it has been brought to our shores.

“The tournament has left a lot into questions and a lot of questions are yet to be answered.”

Sukazi continued: “So, I wouldn’t want to paint this cup [Carling Knockout Cup] in any form of darkish brush just because of an African Football League that we don’t know much about.

“But there are a lot of questions. I can give you a series of ten questions and you not going to give me an answer.”

Sukazi went on to say that he wouldn’t want to dwell much on something that he doesn’t know much about. He would rather let whatever happens there stay there as the attention is on the Carling Knockout Cup.

“So, I will leave it at that and say Carling Cup is here and let’s celebrate and enjoy,” he added.

“Let what happens at AFL by that organisation or whoever is behind it, whom we don’t know just as yet by the way. Let it continue there and let’s focus here and be happy.”
