Komphela names a Man City star that possesses same attributes as Mabasa

Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela has made a bold claim, naming a Manchester City star who possesses the same attributes as Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Mabasa, who’s on loan at the Dube Birds from another Soweto side Orlando Pirates, has had a good start with Swallows in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership.

The goal poacher has been causing troubles for defenders. He has scored six goals in eight league outings.

Not so long ago, Komphela showered the forward with praise saying he’s a complete striker and that he should be playing his football overseas.

TSHEGOFATSO MABASA HAS THE SAME ATTRIBUTES AS ERLING HAALAND

According to the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, the 27-year-old has the same attributes as Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Haaland is clinical and ruthless in front of goal.

“I saw Mabasa at Bleomfontein Celtic. What is happening to Mabasa will shock those who haven’t been keeping track of him. The guy has unbelievable strikers quality,” said Komphela.

“He’s got brains for it and he’s got instincts for it. Above all, he smells where the ball is going to drop.

“Those [attributes] can only be found in special players designated for that special position. You never get to school and learn about that.

“Tell me how does [Erling] Haaland learn where the ball is going to drop? How does he learn that this one I’m taking first time? How does he know that if I go this way the defender is going to open the legs?

“Mabasa has those [attributes], but who knew about it? Those who work with him. Who doesn’t know about it? Those who never had an opportunity to interact with him.”

At Swallows, Mabasa seems to be on the right track and finding his form. He has already equalled his goal tally for the past two seasons at Pirates and Sekhukhune United.

In the 2021/22 season, he scored three goals while in the last campaign, he rattled the back of the net only twice.
