Upington City coach on life in the Motsepe Championship
Upington City coach Thulani Nkosi has spoken about adjusting to life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Upington recently gained promotion to the second tier during the SAFA ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in KwaZulu-Natal.
They are currently at position 13 on the log after seven matches with one win, three draws, and three defeats.
EARLY STAGES OF LIFE IN THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP
Nkosi says the most difficult thing has been finding time to integrate the players while also getting the results.
“It’s a difficult one. You need to have that cohesion of players staying intact and be strong, be able to fight in this league,” he said.
“At the same time, you need to accumulate points as well. So you need to integrate, which is very difficult, and worse now there are back-to-back games that are coming in. So we are hopeful that we will eventually get there.”
UPINGTON CITY NOT RULING OUT NEW SIGNINGS IN JANUARY
Nkosi, who was in charge during the national playoffs, says they might use the January transfer window period to beef up the playing personnel.
“It’s a new season and a new environment as well. All that we wanted to do is give the boys a chance, see what they can do and we will push, as long as we don’t lose games back to back,” he added.
“You need to stay at least within the pack, even if you don’t get maximum points. We will push up until the window period opens, maybe we can reinforce where we can,” he said.
With only two professional teams from the Northern Cape this season, Nkosi also spoke about the importance of making life difficult for visiting teams.
“We want to be extremely difficult, we want to make it very difficult,” said Nkosi. “If you can make teams struggle at home. It gives us an advantage especially the 12th man who are our supporters. It gives the players a lot of motivation.”
Upington City will travel to Marumo Gallants when they resume with league action on Saturday, 21 October.
