14 years later, ex-PSL star’s record remains unbeaten in Botswana

Exactly 14 years after reaching a milestone in the Botswana Premier League, ex-PSL star Terrence Mandaza’s impressive record remains unbreached.

Terrence Mandaza played for Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United between 2011 and 2015.

The 39-year-old broke into the DStv Premiership after impressing in the Botswana Premier League, then in the books of Township Rollers.

WHAT IS THE RECORD THAT TERRENCE MANDAZA HOLDS

The now-retired Zimbabwean footballer won the Golden Boot after scoring 31 goals in the 2009/10 season.

At that time, Terrence Mandaza was the Township Rollers’ main striker in a season they won the league title.

And fourteen years on, his blistering scoring feat is yet to find a match, with Zambian Patrick Kaunda managing 20 goals in the following season.

It is that good scoring record that attracted Platinum Stars to lure him to the PSL in July 2011.

The ex-PSL star Terrence Mandaza later swapped to Maritzburg United in July 2012 and lasted until July 2015.

In total, Terrence Mandaza played 89 DStv Premiership matches, where he managed 14 goals and five assists.

The former Zimbabwe international, left South Africa in 2015 when he was signed by Chiangmai FC of Thailand.

However, he lasted for six months in Asia, before returning to Botswana where he rejoined Township Rollers.

Mandaza then won another Golden Boot during the 2016/17 season albeit with 17 goals to his name.

He later played for Jwaneng Galaxy and Mochudi Centre Chiefs before hanging his boots.

Meanwhile, only a few have tried to breach the 31-goal record, but their efforts hit a snag, as they even failed to reach the 25-goal mark.

Thabang Sesinyi of Jwaneng Galaxy scored 24 goals during the 2021/22 season. Last season, Omaatla Kebatho of Orapa United managed 23 goals.

Mandaza is among the highly-rated Zimbabweans who played in the Botswana Premier League.

In fact, the Botswana Premier League has become the readily available destination for Zimbabwean footballers, as they struggle to break into the DStv Premiership.
