Thabo Mooki identifies positives in Chiefs’ recent performances

Kaizer Chiefs legend Thabo Mooki has identified several positives in the team’s recent performances despite their poor start to the season.

Amakhosi are currently eighth on the DStv Premiership table, nine games into the season, a distant 13 points behind early pacesetters Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, Mooki believes that Chiefs can take a number of things from those performances as they look to restore the glory days. They have gone eight years without any silverware.

WHAT ARE THE POSITIVES IN KAIZER CHIEFS’ RECENT PERFORMANCES?

“I watched them play against Sundowns and Cape Town City recently,” Mooki told FARPost. “I was impressed in that game [City] because they had really improved from the previous one they played against Sundowns.”

Another positive for ‘Tsiki Tsiki’ is their movement and the ability to keep the ball.

“There was movement, they kept the ball well, and ball possession was very high. The structure of the team – they were disciplined. It was unfortunate that they couldn’t score.

“Overall, I think there’s a very big improvement we’ve witnessed. We can only hope for the best.”

Mooki, who made nearly 350 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs in a 15-year career, also praised the team’s new signings. He believes the likes of Edson Castillo, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Pule Mmodi have made a positive impact in their short time at the club.

Overall, he is confident that Chiefs are on the right track and will start winning games again soon. He, however, warns it will take discipline and unity of purpose to turn the corner.

“It’s not easy. It happened to us also. There was a period when we also struggled,” he added.

“But it was all about coming together and executing the coach’s instructions. Talking amongst yourself as players is important. You need to be disciplined and make sure you put a smile on the supporters’ faces. That’s the most important thing. For them to see you guys winning makes their hearts happy.”
