What Broos demands from Bafana ahead of Ivory Coast clash

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has made his point loud and clear about what he demands from his troops ahead of the Ivory Coast clash.

This comes after South Africa settled for a 0-0 draw against neighbours Eswatini at FNB Stadium on Friday night.

This friendly game is part of Bafana’s preparations for the 2023 AFCON tournament in January 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to take place in November 2023.

Complacency and underestimation of the opponents by Bafana left Broos entirely not happy on Friday.

However, the Belgian mentor took responsibility for his side’s struggles against Eswatini and did not want to blame anyone.

Broos’ charges will now face Ivory Coast on Tuesday, 17 October on their own turf. Bafana jetted off to the West African nation on Saturday [10:45] via Angola.

WHAT HUGO BROOS EXPECTS FROM HIS PLAYERS

Broos insists that his players must show hunger and winning mentality when they take on the Elephants on Tuesday.

“I want to see revenge. And certainly, I want to see a team with passion. A team with a winning spirit again,” said Broos.

“We showed that already. Today, we should have won the game without any problem. But nothing is coming easily, even a game against Eswatini.

“Every game you have to go 100%. If things are not running as expected then you have to fight for it. This is what I missed today from my team.”

‘I WANT TO SEE A TEAM THAT CAN DIE’

The 71-year-old coach stated that he wants to see a team that will leave everything in the field of play against Ivory Coast.

“We were lacking decency and that I don’t want to see [in the next game]. I want to see a team that can die [in the field of play]. But after we struggled in the last seconds, I don’t have a problem with that. I have a problem today by seeing a team playing like this,” he added.
