Tim Sukazi blasts ‘unapologetic’ Zungu, provides Parker update

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has blasted ‘unapologetic’ Bongani Zungu after a horrific tackle on Bernard Parker in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Zungu was sent off during Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Carling Knockout Cup clash against TS Galaxy. This was after a crude tackle on Parker which broke the veteran forward’s leg.

Masandawana were booted out of the inaugural Carling Knockout Cup after losing 5-4 on penalties. The match, played at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday, had ended 2-2 after extra-time.

This was the second time in a row that Sundowns endured a heartbreak in a domestic cup competition. The Brazilians lost in the MTN8 final 3-1 on penalties against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium recently.

TIM SUKAZI REVEALS THAT ZUNGU IS YET TO APOLOGISE TO PARKER

With Parker set to be sidelined for a lengthy spell, Sukazi has claimed that Zungu knew what he was doing when he tackled the veteran attacker.

“Bongani Zungu went over the ball and went for Parker’s leg. This happens quite often, if I’m not mistaken Sundowns did this against Pirates in the final,” Sukazi said on Metro FM.

“Players do this from time and again but it doesn’t end in a leg break, I don’t think he [Zungu] knew that he was going to break Parker’s leg. But he definitely went over the ball intentionally, he knew that he wasn’t playing the ball but went for the leg.

“I can assume now that Zungu hasn’t found out about the injury, Parker as we speak is undergoing surgery. So, we haven’t heard from Zungu which is quite unfortunate.”

Sukazi further provided an update on the extent of the injury on the former Kaizer Chiefs star.

“He broke the tibia and fibula, two bones that support the lower leg. The medical opinion is that he may take longer to recover because of his age.

“If you remember, Dillon Sheppard went through the same thing. And those who remember Dan Malesela also went through the same thing.

“So the medical team has confidence that Bernard will recover. From our side, all we need for him is a speedy recovery. That’s what matters; everything else doesn’t matter.”
