How Petro de Luanda coach plans to approach Sundowns tie
Petro de Luanda coach Alexander Santos has revealed how they plan to approach the second leg of the African Football League quarter-finals clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.
The showdown between Bafana Ba Style and the Angolan side will kick off at 19:30.
Petro head into this encounter two goals down, having lost the first leg with a 2-0 scoreline at home over the weekend.
Goals from Marcelo Allende and Thapelo Maseko were enough to sink Santos’ men on their turf.
However, the Petro mentor, Santos, remains confident that his boys will be able to bounce back from the 2-0 goal deficit.
ALEXANDER SANTOS ON FACING MAMELODI SUNDOWNS IN THE SECOND LEG
“We had a very good game mostly in the first half of the game in the first leg of the quarter-finals but was not enough to score and get better results,” said Santos.
“Now, we are in the half-time of the quarter-finals. We need to go back and take one goal and try to get the second goal. But it will be difficult because Mamelodi Sundowns is one of the best teams in Africa, with lots of victories in the South African league and the Champions League.
“They put a lot of pressure on us in Angola but tried to do our best and we did have a good game but it was enough to score and get better results.”
Santos went on to say that they know it won’t be a walk in the park, but they will go out there to “fight” and leave everything in the field of play.
“But now, we have to fight and go to the field and do everything that we can to try to reverse the score and never give up, as we always play to win,” He added.
“It’s easy but not easy to face Mamelodi Sundowns to change the score but in football everything is possible.”
