AmaZulu FC and Pirates settle for share of the spoils in Durban

AmaZulu FC and Orlando Pirates shared the spoils after drawing 0-0 in the DStv Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night.

Both sides created several goal-scoring opportunities but couldn’t find the breakthrough.

While there was a little that separated the two sides in the opening exchanges, it took a few minutes for Pirates to assert themselves on the ball possession count. They started playing more into the hosts’ half.

In the 15th minute, Veli Mothwa denied Thabiso Monyane’s thumping shot inside the box, keeping the score at 0-0. Thereafter, the Usuthu’s new signing Taariq Fielies limped off in the 23rd minute after sustaining an injury. He was replaced by Veluyeke Zulu.

Moments later, the home side started to get into a passing rhythm and created a few goalscoring opportunities. However, they couldn’t find the breakthrough.

AmaZulu had to make another change before half time with the substitute Zulu getting injured after coming on for Fielies. Usuthu introduced Thembela Sikhakhane to replace the former Chippa United defender.

In the second half, Jose Riveiro’s side appeared to be in control of the game even though they produced minimal goal-mouth action.

MAKGOPA MISSING TWO BIG CHANCES

Evidence Makgopa had a golden chance to put the visitors ahead when Lorch cut inside and delivered ground cross. The former Baroka FC man was one-on-one with the goalkeeper but couldn’t reach the ball.

At the hour mark, Riveiro made the attack-minded changes bringing on Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Karim Kimvuidi for Erasmus and Sephelo Baloni.

Makgopa got another chance to rattle the back of the net when he was located by Maswanganyi in the box but his header went wide. He was thereafter taken off with Zakhele Lepasa making a return from injury.

Neither side managed to put the ball in the back of the net as the match ended 0-0.
