Former striker identifies Kaizer Chiefs’ missing element: Can the club fix it?

A former Kaizer Chiefs striker has identified the key missing element at the club following the departure of coach Molefe Ntseki.

Amakhosi on Monday announced that Ntseki has left the club by mutual consent with Cavin Johnson appointed as the new head coach on an interim basis.

The Amakhosi’s technical team changes also saw Arthur Zwane demoted back to the club’s development structures with Dillon Sheppard remaining as the assistant coach.

Ntseki joined the PSL giants in June 2021 as Head of Technical and Youth Development. He then took over the coaching reigns from coach Zwane in June before being shown the exit door.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor led Chiefs in 13 matches in all competitions this season and managed to win four, drew three, and lost six games in his short stint at Naturena.

Zulu, who won the league with Chiefs in the 2014/15 season blamed both the technical team and players for failing to find their own way of playing. He argued that Amakhosi were known as a team that played enterprising football while winning trophies over the years.

“There is no consistency between both the technical team and the players. They lack that aspect [element]. They are not consistent at all,” Zulu told FARPost.

“It’s difficult because in one game you are convinced that Chiefs are on the right track and finding the right foot, but the following game is something else. Not that the players are not good, but they lack consistency. You can see when they lose, they lose by mistakes so often.

“The consistency must be from training. They must take that spirit to the next game. It must be for every game. It’s sad to see how they lose some games.

“Players must head up and be in charge. Chiefs have good players. But they are inconsistent, which is costing the team. We don’t know what they are being told every week. But they must know how to stand up in every game,” concluded Zulu.

The 37-year-old also had stints at Chippa United, Marumo Gallants and Black Leopards.
