Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has revealed the promise he made to the club’s chairman Tlhopie Motsepe in 2022.

Mokoena was signed by Sundowns during the 2022 January transfer window from cross-town rivals SuperSport United on a long-term deal.

The Bafana Bafana international has since established himself as one of the key players in the Sundowns squad and has become a leader in the process.

He has made over 60 appearances in all competitions for the Tshwane giants, scoring five goals, while chipping in with five assists.

For his efforts, Mokoena walked away with the 2022/23 PSL Footballer of the Season award after an impressive showing in the DStv Premiership. The midfield maestro beat his teammate Ronwen Williams and Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng to the accolade.

“Also my mentality has changed a lot, when you arrive in this environment [Mamelodi Sundowns], your mentality changes.

“You have to change your life, the way you treat people. Funny enough when I got here I used to greet everyone sitting down. But when you get here, it doesn’t matter who you greet, it can be a child, you must stand up.

“That’s the culture of the team, so it’s one of the things I was taught when I got here.

“It’s been tough and it will always be tough because the competition is very tight. And that’s what is always making us improve and keep on winning.

“We want to get better every time and I’m not happy as yet. When I signed, I promised the chairman that we gonna win the CAF Champions League but we still working on it.
