Pitso Mosimane bounces back to winning ways
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Wahda bounced back to winning ways on Friday with a 2-1 win over Al Ittihad Kalba in a UAE Pro League tie.
Mosimane’s charges had last won a game a month ago when they narrowly edged Hatta 1-0. They then lost 3-1 to Al Shabab, deflating their chase for the title that they last won in 2010.
The next two fixtures ended in an identical 2-1 scoreline against Baniyas and Al Jazira. Against Al Jazira, formerly home to Thulani Serero, it was the UAE League Cup quarterfinal.
Once again, it was Syrian forward Omar Khribin who scored Al Wahda’s goal early in the second half. It was his third of the season after making five appearances in the league.
Khribin, who joined Al Wahda in June, has also scored two goals in the UAE League Cup, taking his tally to five.
The visitors levelled terms in the 69th minute courtesy of a Mehdi Ghayedi strike. Christian Guanca scored the second for Mosimane’s side from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.
Al Ittihad Kalba finished the match two men short after Daniel Bessa and Filip Kiss were both red carded in the second half.
The result saw Al Wahda move to sixth place from eighth after six games. They have won three and lost three since the start of the season. Log leaders Al Wasl have amassed 14 points from five games.
