Why Pirates coach Jose Riveiro isn’t worried despite dropping points

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has explained why he is not concerned despite dropping four crucial points in the last two DStv Premiership matches.

The Buccaneers were held to disappointing a 1-1 draw by Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Friday evening. Riveiro’s men also shared the spoils against AmaZulu FC in Durban three days earlier.

The recent results mean Pirates are 12th on the log after seven matches, 15 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Though Pirates have played a game less than their rivals Sundowns.

Interestingly, Pirates are also just three points above the PSL relegation/promotion playoffs spot which is currently occupied by Richards Bay FC.

JOSE RIVEIRO EXPLAINS WHY DROPPING POINTS IS NOT A CONCERN

“No, I am concerned with the points I can not be concerned,” he said after the match. “Points is something abstract, it’s a figure, I can not be concerned with a point.

“But I can be concerned with some things that we are not doing well and that we need to correct during the week. We are not finding the goal as easy or the three points as we would like and that’s a handicap obviously in a game like football.

“But I am busy with the problems that we have, I am not concerned. To make sure that game after game we get new problems but not old problems. If we continue to get old problems then it means we are doing something wrong. So that’s the thing, I am busy trying to help my players to win games and to score more goals,” he said.

Riverio was also asked how they can reassure the Buccaneers faithful of their intentions to challenge for the league title.

“How can we give them hope? With better performance than today, it’s simple,” he said.

“It’s about what they want to see, the team fighting until the end. I think we are fighting and we fought until the end. Nobody can say Pirates didn’t run today but probably not in our best space the way we want to play. But we move, we go to the next one.”

The next one for Pirates will be an away encounter against struggling Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday, 1 November.
