Kaizer Chiefs fans punished with stadium ban for misbehaviour

Kaizer Chiefs fans have been punished with a one-game stadium ban for misbehaviour during the club’s recent match against AmaZulu.

Chiefs’ home match against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday, 8 November will be played behind closed doors. This follows a decision by the PSL DC on Tuesday after a hearing.

Amakhosi appeared before the DC after being charged for spectator misbehaviour when they lost 1-0 to AmaZulu FC in the Carling Knockout. The club’s spectators threw objects at now-former coach Molefi Ntseki who demanded he get fired at the time.

Two days later, the club replaced Ntseki with Cavin Johnson as the interim head coach.

CHIEFS TO PLAY BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

“The lockout that was suspended is now brought into operation and will be in reference to the next match pencilled in for the 8th of November, 2023,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu.

“The R50 000 that was suspended is now effective immediately. With regard to the current transgression, they were fined a monetary fine of R300 000. Which is wholly suspended for another period of six months. On condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence.”

CLUB COULD BE PUNISHED FURTHER IF FANS REPEAT BEHAVIOUR

The club faces a further risk of playing another home match in a neutral venue should they repeat the same offence.

“They were also ordered to play their next home game at a neutral venue should they re-offend and be found guilty during the period of suspension,” he added.

“In summary, the match scheduled to be played on 8 November 2023 will be played as a lockout. Meaning that there will be no fans or spectators at all at that venue. They were subsequently directed to carry the costs of today’s sitting.
