Ex-Tuks defender still hurting over missed Orlando Pirates chance

An ex-University of Pretoria defender is still hurting over a missed opportunity to play for Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

The ex-University of Pretoria defender opened up during an interview with StarFM Zimbabwe.

According to Partson Jaure, the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates wanted his services when the University of Pretoria was relegated in 2016.

However, the Sea Robbers withdrew their interest when Jaure was fingered in a match-fixing scandal while on Zimbabwe national team duty.

WHY JAURE IS STILL HURTING OVER THE MISSED ORLANDO PIRATES OPPORTUNITY

Jaure spent two seasons at the University of Pretoria in the DStv Premiership, before they were demoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

“Orlando Pirates were one the teams which were interested in me. When the team [AmaTuks] was relegated. They made inquiries,” Jaure told StarFM

“Sadly for me, nothing came up because of match-fixing allegations that emerged on my part. No club wants to be found in those kinds of situations. It just kills all chances.

“When a team gets relegated, normally, there will be outstanding players who will attract interest from bigger clubs. So at that point, I was one of those wanted when we failed to help the University of Pretoria survive relegation.

“Some clubs wanted me, Pirates included. But as a result of the match-fixing allegations, the move didn’t go through,”.

Jaure was part of the Zimbabwe national team that had a match-fixing scandal in the build-up to the 2017 AFCON finals.

The former Dynamos skipper was at the centre of the controversy, something he believes irked Orlando Pirates who were monitoring him.

WHERE THE EX-UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA DEFENDER IS CURRENTLY PLAYING

After leaving the DStv Premiership, Jaure re-joined Zimbabwe’s PSL where he signed for Ngezi Platinum in July 2016.

He left to join Buildcon of Zambia in January 2018. His stay in Zambia was short-lived, forcing him back to Zimbabwe. The Harare-born defender was signed by Manica Diamonds FC in January 2019, before switching to Dynamos in 2020.

He was offloaded by Dynamos last year and is now in the books of Zimbabwe PSL newbies, Simba Bhora.
