‘Only four coaches have backing of club owners’: Brandon Truter

While his future remains uncertain at Sekhukhune United, Brandon Truter has claimed that only four coaches have the backing of management in the DStv Premiership.

Truter’s future as the head coach of Sekhukhune is under scrutiny due to a poor start to the 2023/24 season.

The former Moroka Swallows mentor took over at Babina Noko in December 2022 after leaving AmaZulu FC.

He helped Sekhukhune to finish seventh on the log last season and made it to the Nedbank Cup final where they lost 2-1 against Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Truter has seemingly struggled to replicate the form of last season after a poor start to the 2023/24 campaign.

The Limpopo-based side won three games in the league, drawing two while losing five times in 10 games. They are sitting 11th on the log with 11 points accumulated.

BRANDON TRUTER BEMOANS LACK OF SUPPORT FROM CLUB OWNERS

Truter has insinuated that most PSL teams don’t have patience with their coaches and only three or four coaches have the backing of management.

Asked if he had a meeting with the club about his future, Truter said: “There was no meeting on Monday, that I promise you.

“At the same time, I’m a winner and I don’t understand losing, so it hurts [poor form] and it affects me a lot.

“The same with the players and management, as a club we’ve achieved a lot. I mean the club is only three seasons old, last season the team finished in the top eight and made it to the Nedbank Cup final.

“We made it to the group stages of CAF Confederations Cup and the expectations goes up and when you have a dip in form like that, of course everyone is gonna speculate.

“Especially in the PSL, the coaches are sacked very quickly.

“I think in the league there’s only three or four coaches who have the backing of the clubs and the owners. But the speculations will always be there.”
