Talking points as CT Spurs pull off a shock win against Pirates

Cape Town Spurs pulled off a 2-1 shock win against Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership clash at DHL Stadium on Wednesday night.

Goals from Lubeni Haukongo and Jarrod Moroole were enough to earn the Cape club maximum points at home.

Meanwhile, Evidence Makgopa scored the only goal for the Buccaneers.

Below are the five talking points from the mouthwatering showdown between Pirates and Spurs.

CAPE TOWN SPURS REGISTER FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

After eight successive DStv Premiership defeats, the Urban Warriors finally registered their first win of the campaign since their promotion to the top flight.

Interim coach Sean Connor and his assistant Vasili Manousakis will be relieved to have finally secured the much-needed three points on their turf.

EARLIEST GOAL

Lubeni Haukongo’s goal is the earliest goal Pirates have conceded in the DStv Premiership since Waseem Isaacs’ goal for Stellenbosch FC in the second minute back in August 2021.

LEAKY DEFENCE COSTS ORLANDO PIRATES

Orlando Pirates have paid for their leaky defence, conceding two goals in the first half, with the first goal conceded just three minutes into the showpiece.

The second goal was conceded in the 36th minute of the game. The vulnerability of the Soweto giants at the back tonight did them dirty.

EVIDENCE MAKGOPA SCORES HIS FIRST LEAGUE GOAL OF THE SEASON

For Baroka FC forward Evidence Makgopa registered his first league goal, his second of the season across all competitions.

Last season, the player struggled for game time and this term, the Bafana Bafana star is aiming to prove his doubters wrong.

PIRATES PLAYERS NOT AVAILABLE FOR TONIGHT’S GAME

Pirates were without the services of goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, captain Innocent Maela, and defender Paseka Mako. The trio are out due to injuries.
