CT Spurs coach on facing Chiefs behind closed doors
Cape Town Spurs interim coach Sean Connor has welcomed the decision by the PSL to play their away game against Kaizer Chiefs behind closed doors.
Amakhosi have been slapped with a fine by the PSL DC following recent events of fans’ misbehaviour.
This means they will play their next match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 8 November behind closed doors.
The DStv Premiership clash with Chiefs also comes at the back of an important win for CT Spurs against Orlando Pirates, their first of the season.
WHAT THE GAME BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AGAINST KAIZER CHIEFS MEAN
Connor says as much as there is no disadvantage in playing Chiefs behind closed doors, players still need to deliver on the pitch.
“Probably against Kaizer Chiefs it is [good playing behind closed doors],” he said. “It’s probably going to be strange. I don’t know whether they played any games under COVID-19 but it’s probably the last experience the players had.
“I think yeah it’s probably not going to be a disadvantage for us playing behind closed doors. But you still got a big deal of what people put out on the pitch,” he said.
“So it’s a difficult game but tonight [against Orlando Pirates] we showed that we can be resting. We showed that we can stick to the game plan and I think we also showed that we can have an influence on the game off the bench which is important as well.”
CAPE TOWN SPURS SET TARGETS AFTER WIN OVER ORLANDO PIRATES
Connor has also revealed the team’s immediate targets as they aim to get out of the log basement.
“We do have a target and we have discussed that with players,” he said.
“I would like to keep that internal. What I would like to say is tonight is our first victory so we need to take a step back and analyze what we did well today, analyze what we didn’t do well and keep moving forward.
“But I think the first thing is we need to get closer to Richards Bay and that’s our first target. Once we do that then we will have another objective but yes we have a points target that we discussed with the players during the week for over the next five games,” he said.
“We think if we can reach that target then we will give ourselves an opportunity.”
