Mokwena heaps praise on DR Patrice Motsepe for AFL implementation

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has heaped praise on DR Patrice Motsepe for his efforts to implement the African Football League [AFL].

The tournament commenced on 20 October and will come to an end on 12 November.

The inaugural CAF AFL consisted of eight teams namely Al Ahly of Egypt, South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca, Tunisian side Esperance, TP Mazembe from DR Congo, Nigerian outfit Enyimba, Simba SC and Petro Atletico from Tanzania and Angola respectively.

Now, there are only two teams that will be participating in a two-legged final fixture. The two are Sundowns and Wydad.

The first leg of the final is set to take place on Sunday, 5 November in Morocco, with the return leg scheduled to be played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday, 12 November 2023.

RULANI MOKWENA PRAISES DR PATRICE MOTSEPE 

Speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of their first-leg clash with Wydad, Mokwena couldn’t praise Motsepe enough. He said: “I have to take this opportunity to congratulate the CAF leadership.”

“In this instance a compatriot, mentor, and president of the CAF, DR Patrice Motsepe, who is a South African and doing incredible work. 

“Not only the work you see [within CAF] but as Phylontropidt across the world. But also now you see the amount of selfless, dedication and the amount of work he’s putting in for African football. 

“This is the African Football League as his brainchild. It’s his idea with the support from the CAF committee and the people that work with him. 

“For sure, they deserve a lot of praise. Also, credit for what I think is one of the many incredible ideas. Especially, in terms of trying to move African football towards a very good stage.” 

Mokwena also believes that the AFL will bring more funds to African football and elevate it to greater heights.
