What the Bafana recognition mean for Oswin Appollis
Polokwane City FC forward Oswin Appollis has revealed what it meant to be named in the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for the World Cup qualifiers.
Bafana Bafana will take on Benin and Rwanda in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month.
Appollis who has been in the form of his life for the DStv Premiership side is amongst the 44 players named by Hugo Broos.
The 22-year-old joined Rise and Shine from Pretoria Callies at the beginning of the current season.
He already has three goals under his belt and also three assists in all competitions. Appollis is an Ajax Cape Town youth product, who also played for the SuperSport United juniors before breaking into their first team.

“Well, it’s my first preliminary call-up. I am feeling very happy but it’s all thanks to the team and I will just continue to work hard because you never know where I will end up,” said Appollis.
“It has been amazing [joining Polokwane City] since the first week the boys have welcomed me nicely. Everyone at the club has welcomed me nicely so it’s actually good being here.”
Broos is expected to name a final 23 players in the next few days.
POLOKWANE CITY KNOCKOUT OUT OF CARLING KNOCKOUT
Appollis was talking after his side were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout by Stellenbosch FC in Polokwane on Friday. Stellies were 2-0 victorious after two first-half quick goals.
“I think if the first half we were a bit switched off they scored two goals. From there we tried to get back to the game but unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. But it’s okay we will just move on and focus on our next game on Wednesday,” he said.
City will host SuperSport United in a League clash at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 8 November.
