The AmaZulu FC striker Bonginkosi Ntuli has sadly passed away at the age of 32, the club confirmed on Sunday, 5 November.
According to the club’s statement, the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward, Ntuli battled with “an aggressive form of cancer, which led to his death.”
He passed away on Sunday afternoon at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
AMAZULU FC CONFIRM THE PASSING OF BONGINKOSI NTULI
“It is with heavy heart that we inform you of the untimely passing of our beloved centre-forward and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli,” AmaZulu confirmed in the statement.
“Ntuli was [very recently] diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which metastasized and untimely led to his death at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital, Pietermaritzburg this afternoon.
“May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. The club requests privacy and patience be granted his family and friends at this difficult time.
“Further announcements will be made in due course.”
Ntuli played his last match for Usuthu when they beat Cape Town City 3-2 on 23 September. He came on from the bench in the 85th minute with Pablo Franco Martin taking off Ethan Brooks.
He was part of the squad that travelled to Limpopo as AmaZulu were going to take on Polokwane City, then Moroka Swallows in Gauteng. However, he returned before the games took place as he was sick.
OVER 140 APPEARANCES FOR AMAZULU
He had made only six DStv Premiership appearances this season. Meanwhile, he made over 140 appearances in all competitions for the Durban-based club.
He started his career at Golden Arrows Reserves before he got promoted to the seniors. In 2014, he signed for Sundowns and didn’t feature much as he had loan spells at AmaZulu and Platinum Stars
He returned to KZN in 2019, signing for Usuthu permanently. And he was one of the main strikers the club relied on. He scored 43 goals and provided four assists for them.
