Teko Modise on Sundowns’ dominance over Al Ahly
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise has opened up on the club’s dominance over Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Over the past years, the two African giants have become rivals and their encounter have been dubbed as the ‘African Derby’.
In 11 matches the two sides have played, Masandawana have won five matches, drew three and suffered three defeats.
In their recent encounter, the Tshwane giants eliminated Al Ahly in the semi-finals of the African Football League, winning 1-0 on aggregate.
TEKO MODISE DIDN’T PICTURE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS DOMINATING AL AHLY
According to Modise, he didn’t picture Sundowns dominating the Red Devils because firstly the aim was to get on the same level as Al Ahly.
“Over the years you know the dominance of Al Ahly have been evident. I mean they were able to sign quality players because they understood the space that they were in,” said Modise on Pitchside Podcast.
“At the time I think that’s the space we wanted to be. We were looking up to them to get into that space. Once we got into that space now was we need to be able to compete.
“I don’t think the first conversation was to dominate. It was we need to compete and now that we’re competing we became one of the best in the continent.”
TEKO MODISE’S BOLD CLAIM ON MAMELODI SUNDOWNS OVER AL AHLY
Modise further made a bold claim saying now they got Al Ahly in their pockets.
“Now we are a team to beat, now the conversation change, how then do we dominate but I strongly believe now we have Al Ahly in our pockets.
“It becomes one of those emotional games from a technical perspective from the players and the media,” Modise added.
