Venda FC confirm Joel Masutha’s replacement
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC has named a replacement for coach Joel Masutha who recently left the club.
Masutha resigned from his position last month after the club went through a rough patch.
The resignation also came after the 5-1 loss to Maritzburg United away from home.
He was replaced by well-traveled Johnny Ferreira who took over in an interim capacity. Ferreira is the Technical Director at the club responsible who also works closely with the technical team. During his tenure, the club played five matches winning two and losing three. This also includes the 2-0 win against Magesi FC in Malamulele this past weekend.
DUNCAN LECHESA NAMED AS COACH JOEL MASUTHA’S REPLACEMENT
The club on Sunday announced that they have hired former Polokwane City mentor Duncan Lechesa as the new head coach.
“I am looking forward to working for the team,” said Lechesa.
“The team shareholders and management are ambitious and supportive. They are very clear with what they want.
“I have enough experience within the NFD after promoting Polokwane City FC twice and I don’t see why I can’t do the same with VFC,” said Lechesa.
He will start training sessions with the squad on Monday 6 November
NEW VENDA FC COACH QUITS AT POLOKWANE CITY
Lechesa was recently at DStv Premiership club Polokwane City. He was in charge when the Limpopo club gained promotion to the elite league at the end of last season. But he was now co-coach alongside Lehlohonolo Seema before he left.
The 47-year-old Lechesa had been linked with an exit at Polokwane City for some time. It was reported that he had left the club last month but the reports were dismissed with ill-health given as the reason for his notable absence.
The former Free State Stars captain is tasked with getting Venda FC out of the relegation zone. They are currently at position 13 on the log after 11 games played with only three wins.
