How much Kaizer Chiefs supporters have cost the club this season
Kaizer Chiefs have been finding themselves on the wrong side of the PSL this season due to their supporters’ violent behaviour and this has cost the club large sums of money.
So far this campaign, Amakhosi faced the PSL disciplinary committee three times to answer to charges of spectator misbehaviour.
The unruly behaviour of the fans has been due to the poor results of the Soweto giants, who have been blowing hot and cold with inconsistent performances.
The angry supporters had been throwing missiles at the former coach Molefi Ntseki.
As part of their latest punishment, Chiefs will play their next DStv Premiership match against Cape Town Spurs behind closed doors.
The game will be staged at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night in Soweto.
KAIZER CHIEFS SUPPORTERS HAVE COST THE CLUB R600 000
The first incident was just after the beginning of the 2023/24 PSL season. Chiefs suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium.
They were found guilty and fined R100 000, however, R30 000 was suspended.
A month later, the Glamour Boys were charged again. This time around it was R200 000 with R50 000 suspended. This came after they lost their home match 1-0 against SuperSport United at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.
They were forced to pay the suspended R30 000 after a second incident against SuperSport and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The third offence which ended Ntseki’s tenure at the club was also a last-minute 1-0 defeat against KZN side AmaZulu FC in the Carling Knockout quarter-final at FNB Stadium.
Chiefs were fined R300 000, but it was suspended as they were ordered to pay the R50 000 that was suspended against SuperSport.
HOW KAIZER CHIEFS HAVE FARED THIS SEASON
The Glamour Boys last won a trophy back in 2015 when clinched the league title. The lack of trophies has also turned the club’s supporters into a laughingstock in SA football as its been eight years without silverware.
Already this season they have missed out on the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup following their exit in the semi-final and quarter-final respectively.
In the league, they are also struggling for form and consistency. The Soweto giants lay 10th on the log standings with 11 points. They have registered three wins, two draws, and suffered five defeats.
