Talking points as Pirates sink Sekhukhune at Orlando Stadium
Orlando Pirates secured a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United in a DStv Premiership tie at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
Thabiso Monyane’s solo goal in the 79th minute was enough to earn Pirates maximum points at home.
Below are the talking points from the league match between the Buccaneers and Babina Noko.
ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE A MUCH-NEEDED WIN
Pirates have struggled to secure a win in their last four league matches, having played two draws and lost two in the process.
Following that winless run, many started to ask if the sit was getting too hot for the Spanish mentor Jose Riveiro, nonetheless, only time will tell.
But today, the Soweto giants managed to salvage a win against Sekhukhune.
MACDONALD MAKHUBEDU TAKING CHARGE OF SEKHUKHUNE UNITED
With Brandon Truter shown the exit door on Sunday following his defeat to TS Galaxy last Saturday in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup quarter-finals, MacDonald Makhubedu was the man in charge of Sekhukhune tonight.
Truter is not the only one who got sacked by the Limpopo club. His assistant coach Morgan Gould and the goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon were actually the first ones to be fired last week before the weekend game against the Rockets.
Makhubedu has now taken over the coaching reins at Babina Noko on an interim basis. The side have begun the journey to hunt for a new mentor.
OLISA NDAH RETURNS IN THE STARTING LINE-UP
Defender Olisa Ndah returned to the starting XI after starting on the bench when Pirates lost to Richards Bay last weekend in the Carling Knockout Cup.
Nkosinathi Sibisi, who started in the position of Ndah last week was not included in the matchday squad tonight.
ZAKHELE LEPASA NOT ON THE MATCHDAY SQUAD
The Sea Robbers have been dealt a blow coming into this game. Striker Zakhele Lepasa was unavailable due to suspension.
Lepasa picked up his fourth yellow card of the season over the weekend.
