Why Riveiro thinks Pirates ‘deserve’ results they’ve been getting lately
Orlando Pirates FC head coach Jose Riveiro has explained why they “deserve” the results they have been getting lately as woes continue.
Riveiro’s side was recently eliminated from the Carling Knockout Cup, suffering a 5-4 defeat on penalties at the hands of Richards Bay FC after a 0-0 goalless draw in 120 minutes.
This was the Spaniard gaffer’s first exit from the domestic cup competition since becoming the buccaneer coach.
Meanwhile, Riveiro’s side hasn’t picked the win in their last four games in all competitions. And in those, they only managed to score two goals.
Despite their struggles in front of goal, Riveiro says they’re the best side in the league in creating goal-scoring opportunities.
However, the 49-year-old believes they’re getting what they deserve as they continue to fail to capitalise on their scoring chances.
JOSE RIVEIRO SAYS ORLANDO PIRATES ‘DESERVE’ RECENT POOR RESULTS
“Like I’ve said before, our performance is a 4-0 performance. but I will repeat myself, I’m sorry, this is a scoring game,” said Riveiro.
“In the league of almost scoring games, goals, we are leading by far, nobody can take us this season.
“But in the scoring one, we are not, and today [Saturday] was one more opportunity to see it. It’s 120 minutes, we did everything but we couldn’t, the ball is not going into the net.
“We had an excellent August early in the season, everything we shot went through and we managed to win games and now we are on the other side of the river.
‘WE ARE CREATING MORE THAN EVER’
“We are creating more than ever, our numbers I’m sure that you used to take the data after the games, our numbers right now are ridiculous, it’s difficult to explain how do we finish the games with zero goals or with one.
“I don’t believe in luck. I’m not that person [to] try to add more drama to the drama saying that we are very unlucky, we are not unlucky.
“We are getting what we deserve. Because this is a game based on put the ball in the net and we are missing that part of the game and it’s in our hands to insist and continue and make things change soon.”
