Kermit Erasmus outlines the most important thing in the Soweto Derby
Kermit Erasmus has outlined the most important thing when two of the biggest teams in SA, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs clash in the Soweto giants.
Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are set to lock horns on Saturday in the famed Soweto Derby at the FNB stadium at 15h30.
They both had an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 season, with none of them really challenging Mamelodi Sundowns‘ stranglehold in the DStv Premiership.
Ahead of the much-anticipated clash one, Pirates beat Sekhukhune United to end a four-match winless streak.
On the other hand, Chiefs also ended their three-match winless streak as they beat Cape Town Spurs 3-2 on Wednesday night.
It is without doubt that the two Soweto giants are not at their level best in terms of form, with AmaKhosi adapting under interim coach, Cavin Johnson.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE SOWETO DERBY?
Erasmus believes form won’t count much when Pirates take on Chiefs. The former Sundowns star revealed the most important thing for players in the Soweto derby.
“A derby is completely unique game, regardless of your current or previous form. How you show up on the day is the most important thing,” said Kermit Erasmus.
“It’s not something that a lot of players get to be a part of and it’s a special group of players that get to be part of this beautiful day and game. I’m looking forward, there is no pressure in that regard. I don’t know how many people will be watching but we just have to show what we are capable of doing and enjoy while doing it.”
Last time out, Erasmus scored as the Sea Robbers beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1. Sandile Mthethwa scored their second goal, while Yusuf Maart scored Chiefs’ consolation goal.
Pirates will however miss the services of Paseka Mako, Innocent Maela, and Sipho Chaine, who continue to recover from injuries.
As it stands, Pirates are tenth on the DStv Premiership standing, with 12 points on their tally. They are two points behind Chiefs who are in seventh position.
