One aspect Cavin Johnson believes the Soweto Derby needs to change
Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has revealed one aspect he believes needs to change in the Soweto Derby.
Chiefs lost 1-0 to the Buccaneers in front of a packed FNB Stadium in a DStv Premiership match on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being involved in domestic football for decades now, it was Johnson’s first Soweto Derby as a coach, also on his 65th birthday.
The derby on Saturday was attended by amongst others FIFA president Gianni Infantino and CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
HOW CAVIN JOHNSON FELT AFTER HIS FIRST ENCOUNTER AGAINST ORLANDO PIRATES
“Fantastic [experience], it’s just that I lost the game,” said the Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Johnson.
“A lot of people asked me, am I shivering in my pants? I said no. You never shiver from football, if you shower from football then you shouldn’t be coaching. So it was a nice feeling.”
Johnson also believes there is just one aspect that the encounter needs to change.
“I personally think it should be Black and White on one side, Black and Gold on the other side. Then you will see who has more power because right now you can’t,” he said.
Strangely, Johnson also says he has found the going easy to be in charge of a big club like Chiefs.
“That’s something that I found very easy. I think the pressure comes from you guys [the media]. Because you write and sometimes you write. I think it’s about the pressure that comes because this team is so big and they have so many fans and there are so many of them to please.
“People think it’s difficult to coach this team, no, it’s not. It’s about the cloth that runs through this team that we need respect and sometimes we don’t respect that,” he said.
Johnson has been in charge for three matches so far, winning one and losing two of them.
