What Jose Riveiro expects his players to do during FIFA break

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed what his players need to do during the international FIFA break following their busy fixture schedule.

For the Buccaneers, the FIFA break has come at the right time as the coach and his troops needed some time off to redeem themselves.

The Spanish mentor went on to say this international break will also give the players the perfect time to come back stronger with high energy.

Riveiro reckons that they played seven games within 22 days and his side have not had time to reflect on some other things.

WHAT JOSE RIVEIRO EXPECTS FROM HIS PLAYERS DURING FIFA BREAK

Riveiro insists that his players should use the FIFA break to rest and do some self-introspection.

“Rest, I will repeat myself, seven games in 22 days. So, it requires rest. But don’t think about resting being in a couch and stretching your legs,” said Riveiro when asked what more can Orlando Pirates players do during the FIFA break.

“What I meant is to rest mentally. Think about something else that is not football and an activation and transaction.

“Don’t listen to the coach for some few days and just try to do something else with their life. This will enable them to come back with energy and the desire to play football again. We only had one day off in those 22 days.”

So far, the Sea Robbers have played 10 league games, winning four, drawing three, and losing three in the process.

As a result, Pirates are placed seventh on the DStv Premiership log standings with 15 points.

Riveiro will be hoping to keep his side’s winning streak when they return from the FIFA break, as they are trying to catch up with the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are yet to drop points this season.

Bafana Ba Style are cruising nicely on top of the table with 24 points from eight outings.

ORLANDO PIRATES’ NEXT ASSIGNMENT

Pirates’ next league fixture will be against Richards Bay away from home on Saturday, 25 November 2023.  The kick-off is at 15:30.
