Mosa Lebusa singles out the trophy he wants to win with Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns versatile defender Mosa Lebusa has singled out the trophy he is longing to win with the Tshwane giants.
Lebusa has been an integral part of Sundowns’ remarkable trophy haul since arriving at the club from Ajax Cape Town [now called Cape Town Spurs] ahead of the 2018/19 PSL season.
To this day, he has now helped the team to clinch eight titles. These are namely; five DStv Premiership titles, 2019/20 Telkom Knockout [now called Carling Knockout], and 2021/22 MTN8.
On Sunday the former Bafana Bafana international played a huge role as the Tshwane giants defeated Moroccan giants Wydad AC 2-0 in the African Football League final; second leg to win the inaugural trophy.
MOSA LEBUSA PICKS THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AS THE TITLE HE WANTS TO WIN
Lebusa has identified the CAF Champions League trophy as his ultimate goal with the club.
“The CAF Champions League [is the trophy I want to win] because I always hear how the guys [teammates] talk about the Champions League,” said Lebusa.
“I want to also experience the feeling. Since I came to this club, it’s all about the winning culture and I just want to keep on winning trophies.
“Champions League is the feeling that I have never experienced.”
HOW MAMELODI SUNDOWNS HAVE FARED IN CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SINCE MOSA LEBUSA JOINED THE CLUB
Masandawana tasted their first Champions League success back in the 2015/16 season when coach Pitso Mosimane was still in charge.
Since then, they have been failing to replicate their performances to add a second star to their badge.
In the 2018/19 season, they exited the competition in the quarter-finals losing 2-1 against Wydad.
The next two seasons [2019/20 and 2020/21] they lost against Al Ahly in the quarter-finals. They suffered 3-1 defeats on aggregate respectively.
In the 2021/22 campaign Angolan giants Petro Luanda were too strong for Masandawana eliminating them in the quarter-finals, 3-2 on aggregate.
Last season, Sundowns came close to reaching the final only to suffer a heartbreak in the semi-finals following a 2-2 draw on aggregate against Wydad. Therefore, they lost on the away goal rule as the first leg ended 0-0.
