Broos outlines role for Jayden Adams in Bafana Bafana squad

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has outlined the role he wants Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams to fill in the national team.

Adams received his first senior call-up for Bafana’s upcoming two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers matches.

Bafana will play Benin on Saturday, 18 November. Kickoff at Moses Mabhida Stadium is at 3pm.

Three days later, Broos’ men will be away to face Rwanda on Tuesday, 21 November at Huye Stadium at 3pm also.

The 22-year-old Adams started the 2023/24 PSL season on the right track with Stellenbosch which has caught the eye of Broos. So far, the talented midfielder has only missed one game, making 15 appearances in all competitions.

He has been active in the final third, directly involved in four goals. The Stellies academy graduate has found the back of the net two times and also turned provider two times.

Broos says Adams is more offensive, therefore he wants him fill Themba Zwane’s role of an attacking midfielder if the Mamelodi Sundowns star is unavailable for selection.

Zwane’s role has been a headache for Broos before especially in the friendly matches against Namibia and DR Congo when he was injured. The team lacked fire power in attack as they were not creative enough.

“It’s not really the same, but we looking for something if something happens to Themba [Zwane]. It’s not the same type but Jayden [Adams] is also a more offensive midfielder,” said Broos.

“In the past we did it with Teboho [Mokoena]. But I need Teboho in front of my defence because he’s the guy and the link. He does it also with Sundowns.

“So we needed someone there and maybe Jayden can solve this problem.”
