The former Zimbabwe international was recently diagnosed with a heart ailment which forced him out of the game. In July this year, SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt revealed that Chigova’s situation was not looking good.

“I have not been briefed on the diagnosis or the whole thing. I’m not a doctor,” said Hunt at the time.

“But I know that there is a problem that we are attending to at this point in time and we will know in the next week or so.

“He’s going to spend four weeks just being inactive and go from there. But it doesn’t look positive. We will give him all the support we can and stay behind him as best we can,” Hunt told the media.

SETBACK FOR DSTV PREMIERSHIP SIDE SUPERSPORT UNITED

The former Polokwane City keeper had started training with United with the aim of returning to competitive football.

The former Zimbabwe number one keeper arrived in South Africa in 2014 to join SuperSport United from Dynamos in his native country. After struggling for some game time, Chigova was loaned out to Polokwane City in 2015. He eventually secured a permanent move at the Limpopo club.

After Polokwane City’s relegation in 2020, Chigova was re-signed by SuperSport under then-coach Kaitano Tembo. His contract with SuperSport came to an end at the end of last season, but he was given a new contract.
