Sundowns Ladies beat AS FAR to book a spot in the CAF Women’s League final
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies claimed a slender 1-0 win over Moroccan side AS FAR at Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium to book a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League final.
Sundowns Ladies travelled to Morocco to face AS FAR in the mouth-watering CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals.
The Pretoria-based side suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against the same opponents in the 2022 CAF Women’s League final.
Sundowns began the match on a front foot in the opening minutes as they searched for an opening goal. However the defending champions stood firm in defence.
The game turned into a physically affair with a lot to stoppages from the referee as tackle were flying in.
ANDILE DLAMINI KEEPS SUNDOWNS LADIES IN THE GAME
AS FAR had an opportunity to take a lead against Sundowns when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box in the 35th minute but it was saved by goalkeeper Andile Dlamini.
The referee blew the half-time whistle with Sundowns and AS FAR deadlocked at 0-0.
Sundowns began the second-half with high intensity looking to find the first goal of the night but they were let down by misplaced passes.
Masandawana came close to finding a breakthrough in the 70th minute but the shot by Boitumelo Rabale was parried away.
Rabale could not be denied in the 73rd minute after pouncing on a lose ball in the box to give Sundowns the lead.
AS FAR went in search of a quick response to find an equaliser but Sundowns remained resolute at the back.
Sundowns held on to beat AS FAR 1-0 to book a spot in the CAF Women’s League final.
Jerry Tshabalala’s troops will will face either Ampem Darkoa on Ghana or Sporting Casablanca of Morroco in the final.
