CT Spurs confirm Manousakis’ future following arrival of Middendorp
Cape Town Spurs have confirmed the future of assistant coach Vasili Manousakis following the appointment of Ernst Middendorp.
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor was unveiled on Friday at Ikamva a month after Shaun Bartlett‘s departure.
He was surrounded by CT Spurs’ technical director Sean Connor and CEO Alexi Efstathiou. While Connor, who was the interim coach, returned to his role there had been questions about the future of Manousakis.
THE FUTURE OF VASILI MANOUSAKIS AT CAPE TOWN SPURS CLARIFIED
The former Richards Bay coach joined the Urban Warriors in October as the club’s assistant. The club confirmed on Friday that Manousakis would be retaining his role under Middendorp.
“Part of the discussions was that he [Ernst Middendorp] would be very happy to work with the technical team,” said Sean Connor.
“We have a top coach in Vasili, our physical people, our medical people. What we are hoping is that Ernst’s experience and knowledge will be passed amongst the team and we all work together.
“Hopefully I will have time to supplement that and I think what I have tried so far is creating an open and learning environment. As I did when you bring someone as well into that environment you are July going to benefit everybody,” he added.
TOUGH TASK AHEAD FOR ERNST MIDDENDORP
“I am also hoping that he is going to enjoy working with some of the people here and we are all going to work together. Me and him, [our job] is to keep this football club in the PSL and the long term is to develop our own way of thinking, our own way of playing. As Ernst said, playing football.”
Middendorp will have a full week before taking charge of his first match against Royal AM at home. The club currently sits at the basement of the DStv Premiership after 11 games so far.
