Another milestone for a former Kaizer Chiefs star in Zimbabwe
In a season he hogged the limelight after assaulting a referee, a former Kaizer Chiefs gunslinger has helped yet another team gain promotion into Zimbabwe’s PSL.
The former Kaizer Chiefs star Luke Petros is carving a niche as a master in terms of helping teams gain premiership promotion.
In Zimbabwe, four teams are promoted from the four ZIFA regional division one leagues as four are relegated.
And Luke Petros steered Tenax FC to secure a ticket into Zimbabwe’s PSL from the Eastern Region Soccer League championship on the final day of the season.
They dismantled JM Busha 6-1 as their rivals Bikita Minerals and Wangu Mazodze dropped points.
Both rivals, Bikita Minerals, and Wangu Mazodze failed to win their matches, settling for draws against Grayham and Renco Mine respectively.
WHAT LUKE PETROS SAID AFTER WINNING THE PROMOTION TICKET
As such, Luke Petros and his men won the coveted ticket, adding yet another achievement to his growing profile.
“For me this is massive. We defied the odds in a season that had so much drama on and off the field of play,” Petros said.
“Our unheralded and young team moved mountains, hence today we celebrate the achievement.
“For now, we celebrate together. But I look back at this season as one of the toughest since I started this coaching journey.
“It’s the third time getting promoted, with two different teams. It’s a learning curve, there is always room for improvement. But I hope we can continue having better fortunes in the top premiership. It’s different there but we wait.”
He first led WhaWha FC into the elite league in 2015 but could not retain the head coach post. That is because he did not have the required CAF A coaching badge.
They were relegated and he led them back to the PSL at the end of 2019 but they were relegated and disbanded last year.
How the former Zimbabwe international will fare in the premiership this time around remains to be seen.
But what is left for him is to master the art of navigating the tough elite league terrain.
