Khuliso Mudau responds to Burnley FC links

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau has responded to speculation linking him with a move to English Premier League side Burnley FC.

The reports emerged a few weeks ago that Mudau is on the radar of Burnley FC after his impressive performances for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.

Mudau has been one of the outstanding performers in the DStv Premiership and recently clinched continental silverware with Sundowns.

Masandawana won the inaugural African Football League [AFL] trophy after beating Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate in the final.

“Sailor,” as he is known, was instrumental in Sundowns’ remarkable start to the season, where they emerged victorious in all of their first eight league matches.

Mudau joined the Brazilians during the 2020/21 campaign and has since made over 100 appearances for the club, scoring four goals while providing two assists. He has been vital for Sundowns in attack and defence.

Amidst swirling rumours of interest from Burnley, the 28-year-old star has finally addressed the speculation.

“Obviously, there are rumours here and there but I’m focusing on my team, which is Mamelodi Sundowns. But if an opportunity like that [playing for Burnley FC] can come, obviously I’ll just take it.” Mudau told SAFA media.

A potential move to Burnley would see Mudau team up with his fellow South African Lyle Foster at Turf Moor.

The pacey wing-back was crucial for Bafana Bafana as they beat Benin 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Mudau scored the winning goal for the Hugo Broos-coached team. Al Ahly striker Percy Tau opened the scoring for Bafana Bafana in the opening minutes of the match.

In their next World Cup qualifiers encounter, Bafana will face Rwanda at Huye Stadium on Tuesday, 21 November 2023. Kickoff is at 3:00 pm.
