Lifa Hlongwane completes PSL move

Fomer Maritzburg United attacker Lifa Hlongwane has completed a move to a PSL side after parting ways with TS Galaxy.

Hlongwane was released by TS Galaxy early in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season. The skilful player fell out of favour at Galaxy under head coach Sead Ramovic.

The 30-year old midfielder spent three seasons with the Rockets after signing from Maritzburg United during the 2021/22 campaign.

Hlongwane made over 30 appearances during his spell at Galaxy, scoring two goals while chipping in with one assist.

Amongst several teams that Hlongwane played for are Black Leopards, Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Jomo Cosmos, Maritzburg United and TS Galaxy.

The experienced campaigner has now landed a move at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC.

Hlongwane joins Boroka who have been on an impressive form under the guidance Dan Malesela.

Bakgakga are unbeaten under Malesela who took over the coaching reigns from the discarded Stanford Nkoane.

The Limpopo-based side played seven games under Malesela, winning five and drawing two. They are sitting fourth on the Motsepe Foundation log standings with 20 points.

Hlongwane will add the much needed experience at Bakora as they push for automatic promotion to the SA’s top flight.

The 2018 Telkom Knockout Cup winners were relegated to the NFD at the end of 2021/22 season after a poor run of form.

“Baroka Football Club can confirm the signing of Lifa Hlongwane on a one-year contract plus optional.” the club announced in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Soweto-born dribbling star will team up with Masilake Phohlongo whom he played with at Galaxy.

Phohlongo joined Baroka few weeks ago after parting company with the Tim Sukazi-owned team.

Hlongwane will be in contention to make his debut for Baroka when they face NB La Masia on Sunday, 26 November at Global Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 pm.
