Akpeyi highlights Kaizer Chiefs’ danger despite recent struggles

Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has highlighted the danger that Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs pose despite their recent struggles.

The two clubs, Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs are set to lock horns on Sunday in the Soweto Derby at the Dobsonville Stadium.

As Akpeyi faces his former club, four Chiefs players, George Matlou, Dillan Solomons, Njabulo Ngcobo, and Sifiso Hlanti are also set to come up against their ex-bosses at Swallows.

Coach Steve Komphela is also aiming to bully Amakhosi as The Dube Birds seek to consolidate their position on the DStv Premiership table.

Swalows are in fifth position having won five of the ten matches they played, with two games in hand.

On the other hand, Chiefs are tripping down the ladder, as they sit in 10th position with 14 points. Another disappointing result after the Soweto Derby loss against Orlando Pirates loss could condemn them further down the pecking order.

However, Akpeyi is the first to admit that The Glamour Boys remain difficult to tame despite their recent struggles.

“Playing a team that is struggling is difficult. It’s not going to be easy because they are looking for points and we are looking forward to sustaining our position on the log,” he said.

“It’s going to be difficult on Sunday because it’s a case of two lions fighting. At the end of the day, we are ready and prepared for what is coming.”

Chiefs, though, have dominated in their last ten meetings. They drew on four occasions, with The Dube Birds winning twice while Amakhosi won on four occasions.

The Swallows goalkeeper, Akpeyi added:” In my own opinion, the players are different. And the couple of them that I have come across are able to deal with the pressure of the institution.

“The team has a huge fan base and it matters if you will be able to stand when things don’t go well.

“Those are the challenges that players have, the senior players know it all. It might be tough for the juniors. While I was there, we knew from the experience that we are expected to face such situations.”
