Middendorp reveals what would make it easier to settle at Spurs
Recently appointed Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed what could make life easier for him to help the club’s turnaround from poor results.
The well-traveled coach was appointed as the replacement for Shaun Bartlett at the DStv Premiership club last week.
His first task will be a home fixture against Royal AM at home on Saturday, 25 November.
WHAT WOULD MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR ERNST MIDDENDORP?
With the club having collected only three points out of a possible 33, Middendorp says having some of his former players at Spurs could come in handy for him. He was referring to players such as Clayton Daniels, Nazeer Allie, Nicholas Lukhubeni and Keagan Buchanan whom he has worked with at his previous clubs.
“If you have players you have worked with, it’s very crucial,” he said.
“The process of getting it done in a way as you would like to see at a training process. So on it’s a little bit easier.
“Because you know you come around as a coach nobody knows you. It’s only what you guys are writing about the coach being whatever. So everybody is a little bit out of control in normal behaviour. So I think it will be easier,” explained the German-born coach.
“It makes it easier for all of us to find the right way with information and leadership.”
Despite only one win in 11 league matches, Middendrop still believes the results might not be a true reflection of the club’s performances.
“I am looking more into the performances. You haven’t seen results like 5-1 or whatever, you have seen matches ending up probably not handling the critical phases at the end of the game.
“You have to look more into details of the process and performances, it’s not about the final results. But of course, there could have been a number of points involved that is definitely something,” he said.
HAVE CAPE TOWN SPURS FOUND THEIR MESSIAH TO HELP WITH THEIR TURNAROUND?
“Yes, I have definitely been in a number of crisis management moments [before]. I think it’s a little bit of a company under administration, that’s where we are with Cape Town Spurs.
“We are all aware that we have to come into the right position again. I think it’s definitely a situation where we believe all together. It’s not only my belief, otherwise, I wouldn’t be here. I think it’s a belief that we developed over a number of days with our discussions and presentations of our thinking to each other.”
