Paulse shares his perspective on Middendorp’s appointment at CT Spurs

Former Cape Town Spurs assistant coach and striker Nathan Paulse has had his say on the appointment of Ernst Middendorp as the club’s new head coach.

Middendorp was appointed by the Urban Warriors last week Friday as the successor of Shaun Bartlett who was sacked in October due to poor results.

While the club was searching for the new mentor, Sean Connor, who’s the Technical Director was guiding the team on an interim basis along with the assistant coach Vasili Manousakis.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach is up for an extreme challenge as the club has only registered one win from 12 matches across all competitions, losing the rest.

As a result, the Cape side is languishing at the bottom of the DStv premiership League standings with three points.

Paulse feels the CT Spurs job was always going to be a “difficult task” for any coach who’s appointed. He says the coach would have to deal with “individual playing personnel” in the squad for the team to perform.

NATHAN PAULSE THINKS MIDDENDORP IS UP FOR DIFFICULT TASK

“I think if anyone took this job and I think even a blind man can see that this is a difficult task,” Paulse said in an interview with FARPost.

“If a coach is brave enough to take this on, then he must be feeling as if he can turn it around. I just feel at this point there are few factors that need to be addressed in the squad, especially with regards to individual playing personnel, you know.”

Paulse went on to question whether the club had enough in their squad to turn the corner. However, he was frank that he isn’t “overly optimistic”.

“Are the players are good enough for the PSL? Are the senior players have the right qualities that can actually turn things around? Considering that they have been there for this first part of the season.

“They have largely played, so they have not brought all their part. Are the current senior players and all the players, the best players [can] help the team to turn things around?

“Only time will tell whether he can things around and as I have said earlier, I’m not overly optimistic,” Paulse added.

Middendorp will be on the bench for the first time as CT Spurs head coach when they take on Royal AM at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 25 November at the DHL Stadium at 17:45.
