Augustine Kwem reveals secret to AmaZulu FC recent upturn

“Only a few teams can manage this,” said Augustine Kwem as he broke down the new system for AmaZulu FC which has contributed profusely to their upturn.

The KZN giants haven’t tasted a defeat in their last five games in all competitions. Of those games, they won three and drew two, scoring eight goals and conceding two.

Usuthu striker Kwem believes they’re getting used to Pablo Franco Martin’s philosophy.

Martin has been playing with three men at the back, allowing wing-backs to join the attack more. Kwem feels this has been helping them create more clear-cut chances.

The Nigerian striker says not all teams in the DStv Premiership would be able to make it work with this system.

AUGUSTINE KWEM SAYS THE NEW FORMATION HAS CONTRIBUTED TO AMAZULU FC’S UPTURN

“I think it’s about getting used to the coach’s philosophy if you notice now we play with wing-backs and three at the back,” said Kwem in the media open day on Wednesday.

“So, most times, in the PSL you find that it’s only a few teams that can manage that kind of formation. So, we’re slowly adapting to that.

“And now making our wing-backs work more to join our attack so that we have more numbers upfront.

“So, I think we are adapting very well, hence you can see the shots on targets and we are creating more clear goal-scoring chances.”

Usuthu will take on Stellenbosch FC in a league tie on Saturday, 25 August at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 3:30 pm.

He insisted Stellies have been one of the best teams in recent matches in the league and believes it wouldn’t be an easy clash.

KWEM EXPECTING ‘TOUGH’ MATCH FROM STELLIES

“I think if we keep our consistency and not be complacent because we haven’t been really seeing their games but if you check their stats, the last five games, they’re the best in the league. They [drew one] and won all other four,” he added.

“So, it’s a tough contender.”
