Talking points as Richards Bay hold Pirates to a frustrating draw

Orlando Pirates dropped points on Saturday afternoon following a frustrating 0-0 draw against Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium, Durban in the DStv Premiership.

The two teams tried their best to find the back of the net however they couldn’t beat the keepers at both ends.

Following a goalless draw, the Soweto giants lay eighth on the log standings. They have accumulated 16 points from 11 encounters.

On the other hand, the Kaitano Tembo-led side find themselves in the relegation zone. They are 15th on the log with 10 points after 13 league matches.

Below are the talking points as the Rich Natal Boys and The Bucs shared the spoils.

FORTUNE MAKARINGE STARTS FOR PIRATES

Midfield engine Fortune Makaringe was named in the starting 11 for the first time since the club’s first league match against Stellenbosch FC in August.

He has been linked with another DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United, due to lack of game time with the Sea Robbers.

ABSENT THEMBINKOSI LORCH

Star player Thembinkosi Lorch was a notable absentee after the club decided to suspend him until 12 December after his court ruling. He escaped a five-year jail sentence for Gender Based Violence on his ex-girlfriend and was ordered to pay R100 000.

Lorch has been active for Pirates since making a return from a long-term injury. This season he has played seven matches in all competitions but only registered one assist.

LESS ACTION-PACKED FIRST HALF

The two teams went on the break deadlocked at 0-0. The hosts were a better side as they created goalscoring opportunities, however, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Towards the end of the encouncer Thabang Monare who was warming up on the touchline was shown a red card following his incident with a ball boy who was wasting time.
